Hiring a car is one of the most enjoyable things you can do when traveling and there are so many good reasons why. My main reason has always been due to the freedom of going wherever you want, after all that’s what holidays should be all about. Here is my guide to renting a car on your next holiday, enjoy!
Check the car
Before you head off it is a good idea to make sure that the car is in good working order and that any damage from previous drivers has not been missed. I like to give the car a good once over when I am hiring one. Check the interior, tyres and the body of the car. Make sure that there is no damage that hasn’t already been documented, as you may be “at fault” for this if it wasn’t previously reported. Pictures are an absolute must in this case! It’s also a good idea to make sure that the rental has all season tyres, especially if you are heading into a place where the weather could vary.
You wouldn’t drive without insurance normally so why would you when hiring a car. Insurance is a must and it is important to understand what it covers. Take your time and make the right decision to suit your needs. There are usually varying levels of cover, but take the one that you feel best about and also ask as many questions as you need to, because once you sign you can’t take another level of cover!
It is also a great idea to make sure you have the right car for your needs. A car that is too small is going to be uncomfortable if you are driving a lot. If you have a lot of luggage you will also need to think about what is the best car for you and thinking carefully can make your rental car experience much more pleasant. If you are heading on a long drive with your kids, an entertainment system may be the perfect solution for the car you are hiring. If you aren’t it probably isn’t necessary, so be sure to take only things that you need and spend the extra money on having a great holiday instead.
