Visit in the Offseason

While Galveston enjoys moderate temperatures and weather year round, there’s still an offseason for this seaside city. Peak season for the area is between June and August. During this time, visitors flock to the beaches to enjoy the sunshine and warm weather and as a result, hotels charge top prices. However, late spring and early fall also offer very comfortable weather but with smaller crowds and lower prices. If you can schedule your trip during the winter months, you can enjoy even more cheap hotels in Galveston.
Don’t Stay Right on the Beach
Hotels along Seawall Boulevard enjoy the convenience of being right along the beach. However, guests at these hotels also pay a higher price for this amenity. Instead, you should look for hotels that are further inland for better prices. For example, if you stay at Springhill Suites by Marriott Galveston you can enjoy lower prices since the hotel isn’t directly on the beach, but you’re still just a few miles away. You’re also conveniently close to other popular attractions around the area such as Schlitterbahn Waterpark and Moody Gardens.
Keep an Eye Out for Festivals
Galveston hosts many famous festivals throughout the year that bring crowds of people to the area. In the beginning of February, 300,000 revelers come to celebrate Mardi Gras Galveston. They enjoy masked balls, over 20 parades, balcony parties, and around 40 concerts. Since this is the third largest Mardi Gras party in the country, hotels know they can charge more for rooms and they’ll quickly sell out.
Additionally, during the last weekend of September, the area celebrates the annual Shrimp Festival. Here, thousands of people come to enjoy a free boat and RV show, vendors, live music, a 5K and 1K run, parades, a shrimp and gumbo cook-off, and gumbo tasting. This popular festival brings in enough people for hotels to raise their rates. For the best deals on hotel rooms, make sure you plan your visit around the popular Galveston festivals.
Avoid the Water Park During Summer
Galveston is home to the popular Schlitterbahn Waterpark. This 26-acre park has 35 indoor and outdoor water attractions including an 81-foot tall water slide, a tidal wave river, many children’s pools, and a surfing wave pool. During the summer, hotels like Inn at the Waterpark are packed with guests looking to cool off. However, during the winter, Schlitterbahn will close the outdoor area, and both surrounding hotels and the water park will offer reduced prices.
